Not THAT! “B” word. I’m talking about breastfeeding, the dreaded topic that make some uncomfortable, sadly. Well, imagine how I feel because what I’m about to discuss is out of my comfort, in hope that this will be a great help to a mom who’ve experienced similar or going through now, hence reading this. Breastfeeding a baby can bring about mixed feelings, ones you can’t imagine until you experience it.
I’ve been breastfeeding now for almost 15 months, this is not my first rodeo; with our other two we went 13-16 months nursing each. It’s safe to say, I’m well vetted in my experience of the matter. Nonetheless, this time around hasn’t been one of triumph. Majority of this time has been spent back and forth to a doctors office, getting prescriptions filled or outright in excruciating pain, yet I still continue to press on.
In February of last year, I made a life changing decision to stop eating meats and dairy. In turn I was eating vegetables, fruits and lots of CARBS. One, of many things that are associated with breastfeeding is the potential for the mother and baby to contract Thrush, commonly known as candidiasis, a.k.a Yeast infection of the skin or accumulates in the mouth. Which has been a nightmare. After searching for answers, I was reminded almost a year later that high carbs are a prime meal for candida to feast on. Of course the combination of my normal hormones being altered, I needed a solution fast. I remember having this same experience with our first child but nowhere close to this extent of pain.
Oregano oil, Garlic and Candida
Listening to the radio, a segment when a Doctor shares health tips and testimonials the topic was about candida. Which I am not a believer of coincidences, everything happens with a purpose. He mentioned taking garlic clove small enough to swallow whole, because chewing garlic could be quite disgusting and oregano oil in capsule form. Oregano is rich in concentrated phenols that helps aid in preventing and kills the candida fungus. If taking capsules are a challenge, gradually take 2-4 drops daily of oregano oil increasing to 5-6 drops in a glass of water. Garlic and Oregano are packed with tremendous health benefits I encourage you to look into, sure garlic has its cons but I’d rather smell like garlic temporarily than the pain of nipple cuts from thrush. Be mindful of the antibiotics prescribed, they too can cause yeast infections. I prefer a more natural means of combating illness.
Cheers to better days and happy nursing!
I look forward to chatting with you!
